BACKGROUND NOTE: Dolce & Gabbana (DG), one of the leading international groups in the fashion and luxury goods sector, was founded by Domenico and Stefano in Milan, Italy, in the year 1985. The company produced designs for women's and men's clothing, shoes, bathing suits, lingerie, and accessories. The company also owned a children's clothing line, and had eyeglasses and fragrances produced under its license. Its products were grouped under two core brands: Dolce & Gabbana, and D&G Dolce & Gabbana. THE 2018 SNOWBALLING CONTROVERSY IN CHINA: In November 2018, a DG catwalk event named ‘The Great Show’ was to be held at Expo Center of Shanghai, China. DG released a series of promotional videos for the show on its Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter profiles. ..

IMPACT OF THE BACKLASH: There was a social media outburst and users commented harshly on the brand’s insensitivity to the Chinese culture and called the promotional videos racist.
